Top Tips to Handle a Bad Day  (continued)

- Focus on What You Can Control It’s easy to feel like everything is spiralling when you focus on what’s out of your control. Instead, focus on what you can control. This might be as simple as deciding to take a deep breath, making a to-do list to regain some structure, or choosing to pause and give yourself a moment of peace.

- Remember Past Successes Think back to a time when you overcame a difficult challenge. What did you learn from it? What helped you get through it? Remembering your past successes can help you realise that bad days are temporary, and you have the strength to overcome whatever comes your way.

- Practice Self-Compassion Be kind to yourself. We are often our own harshest critics, especially on bad days. But remember, it’s okay to not be okay sometimes. You don’t have to be perfect. Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself the space to feel what you’re feeling without judgement.

- Reach Out for Support If you’re feeling isolated or overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out to a friend, family member, or colleague. Sometimes, talking to someone you trust can bring a sense of relief, perspective, and comfort. You don’t have to navigate tough days alone.

- Give Yourself Permission to Rest If you’ve had a stressful or emotionally draining day, give yourself permission to rest. Rest is vital for emotional and physical wellbeing. Sometimes the most empowering thing you can do is take the time to recharge, whether that’s through a good night’s sleep or simply doing nothing for a while.

-Take Small, Positive Actions Break your day into small, manageable tasks. Even if you feel like you’re struggling, taking small steps forward—such as getting out of bed, making a cup of tea, or completing one small task—can help you feel more in control and capable.

- End the Day with Gratitude No matter how difficult the day has been, end it with something you’re grateful for. Whether it’s a warm meal, the support of a loved one, or just the fact that you made it through the day—finding even a small moment of gratitude can shift your mindset and remind you that the bad day doesn’t define your life.
